Obviously my favorite Directorial Debut is The Godfather though, from Francis Doors Coppola. It's arguably the greatest movie of all time. What he did to make the cinematic achievement is incredible!
Boys in the Hood, Duel, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Mad Max, Sex, Lies & Videotape, Reservoir Dogs, The Maltese Falcon, 400 Blows, Badlands, Breathless, Eraserhead and of course Citizen Kane come to mind for Directorial Debuts. I really love Cholat as well Lasse Hallstrom.
I def would have had 12 angry men on my list... That's for sure! It's a great film. And I know great gets thrown around a lot, but 12 Angry Men deserves it.
